Introduction

Good evening! Welcome to the world of safety. A Culture of Safety. Nurses today are the gatekeepers of safety for the patients we serve. This blog will explore different concepts surrounding safety. Medical errors in health care are related to poorly designed processes of care, lack of support systems for decision making and a structured environment in which nurses work (Page, 2004). Nurses must become engaged in the processes that can create a safe day every day for our patients. This is vital for our profession. I hope to reveal evidence that will motivate and empower nurses out in cyber land to go back to their units and create a safe day for their patients they care for.

  1. Hello lorelai, I agree with you that nurses need to foster an environment of safety at all times. The American Nurses Association (ANA) code for nurses requires that nurses treat patients with respect for human dignity and uniqueness of each perspn by recognizing each patient's rights (ANA, 1991). We can teach nursing students to better follow the Code.

  2. Lori, a great area to look at. A culture of safety is to be the priority for all health care organizations. Nurses can help to make such vast difference, and the line must be clear between human error and intentional negligence. Steps must be taken to ensure patients and their family members are guaranteed that everything is being done in creating a culture of safety for all.

  4. Safety is a topic that needs to be incorporated in all that we do at the bedside. Please take a moment and answer three short questions about safety at the hospital where you work. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/D56GSTY
